The Met Store Sculpture*Giambologna: Owl Sculpture

A sculpture gift, inspired by art history.

This charming sculpture reproduces an avian figure originally sculpted by Giambologna (Netherlandish, ca. 1529–1608) and exhibited in the National Museum of Bargello in Florence. Giambologna traveled to Italy around 1550 to study classical and Renaissance sculpture, and eventually found himself in the employ of the powerful Medici family. The artist is revered for his dramatic and monumental triumphs in marble; as such, this small bronze nature study occupies a unique space in his oeuvre.
